Study groups

Our study (or interest) groups are a fundamental part of U3A (the University of the Third Age). The idea is learning for pleasure - no exams, no certificates or diplomas, just a small group of friends getting together to learn something new. Smaller groups meet in a member's house, and larger groups at the Nairn Community Centre. All groups are self-led, that is, it is the members who organise the meetings, and either teach each other, or help each other to learn. If you would like to join one of our groups, please contact one of the committee members or the group leader at one of the open meetings, or contact the group leader direct.

If you would like to start up a new study group, there are lots of possibilities - it could be a conventional academic subject, such as a language or the arts, or perhaps a social interest to keep the mind alert, such as bridge or board games, or even a physical activity, like walking, golf or tai chi. It is not necessary to have any prior knowledge of a subject before starting a group; all that is needed is a willingness to learn. If you have a skill or knowledge you are willing to share with others, or you just want to get together with others with a similar interest, please talk to one of the committee members.
